Faith

Faith is one of the most confused and misunderstood of all topics in the word. Though the Bible talks much on faith and its importance we find that only a microscopic minority of the believers have really understood what faith is.

What is Faith?

Hebrews 11:1 ( NIV )

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see

Let’s analyse this verse

Faith is now not tomorrow or day after tomorrow or the next week or next month. Faith deals with now. Faith means being sure or being confident ( confidence means having no doubts whatsoever. Faith refers to the unseen realm. The moment you see what you believe for in the visible realm faith ceases to exist. Today the problem with many believers about faith lies in the difficulty to accept with confidence what they are not able to perceive with their senses

All men today are governed by the 5 senses

How does Faith come?

Romans 10:17

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God The Bible very clearly reveals that faith cometh. If it has to come then it has come from the outside into our inner man. Faith cometh from hearing the word of God The word of God is the only source of faith, Faith is based only on the word Its origin is the word. You can’t have faith for something which is not there in the word. Remember faith does not come from philosophy or psychology or some other study. It comes only from hearing the word of God. As one studies and meditates on the word more and more his faith level increases

One fact which all have to keep in mind about faith: Though faith cometh from the word, the word of God cannot build faith within us unless we permit it to become part of our spiritual being. There are some who read the Bible many times and even memorize many verses but they don’t live acceptable lives. That means though they read the word they don’t allow the word to take control or change their lives. Such people will have great difficulty in understanding and growing in faith

Type of Faith

Bible talks about different measures of faith in believers

Little faith

In Mark 8: 23 to 26 – we find the incident of the disciples traveling in the ship with Jesus. Suddenly a great storm arose and water started coming inside the ship. Jesus was happily sleeping. When the water level increased they became panicky and woke up Jesus with the words "Lord, save us: we perish". The first words which came out of his mouth was "Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?". After saying these words only he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm ( Note Jesus did arose and rebuked the storm only after the words came out of his mouth )

Here Jesus did not justify the act of his disciples in being fearful at seeing the water in the ship. He tried to teach them the truth. Today when many of our believers act with fear when circumstances change , we justify their actions. As a result many believers don’t grow in faith or make any attempt to grow in faith.

Weak faith

Romans 4:19 And being not weak in faith . The signs of weak faith are constant worry, tension, fear, unbelief. Such believers are dominated by what their senses say. They see very few miracles in their lives. Their life is full of pain, sorrow, grief, troubles, failures, sicknesses, bondages etc. They assume that this is how life will be in this world. They see other weak believers going through the same struggles and are satisfied . Their lives are dominated by the words " too big" , "impossible" , "difficult" etc.

God for them is a distant reality seated far away very often.

Strong Faith

Romans 4:20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; The bible says Abraham was strong in faith , Why? Because he did not stagger or waver at the promises of God.

Strong faith never staggers or wavers at God’s promises no matter how circumstances may look. Strong faith knows that the God who has promised cannot lie and he will do what he has promised. Strong faith relies on the faithfulness of God. Strong faith refuses to consider physical reality when it contradicts the promises of God. Strong faith gives glory to God in the midst of total impossibility of a thing expecting or desired for happening.

Great Faith

Matthew 8:10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. Jesus said that the centurion had great faith of the type he did not find in Israel. Why did he say so? The centurion was one who had a clear understanding of the authority of the word of Jesus over impossible situations. He had no doubts whatsoever not only about the ability of Jesus but also about his willingness. The Bible says that Jesus marvelled when he found such great faith.

Yes Great faith makes Jesus to marvel. God is looking for people with Great faith Jesus says he found great faith in the centurion

Today child of God understand if today you are going through very difficult situation and the way seems bleak and dark with no hope, it is time that you start spending more time in the word instead of allowing your thoughts to drift about your situation. Remember that we have an Almighty God who has promised to not only supply all your need but also to be with you always even unto the end of the world. Catch hold of his word and refuse to let it go no matter how your situation may turn. As you do so you will suddenly find an outburst of supernatural power from the finger of God which will suddenly break the cords which were controlling your situations and you will become free.

Remember that "Faith is the key to Victory" and "Faith opens the doors to the supernatural"

  • By what they hear through their ears

  • By what they see with their eyes

  • By what they feel with their body

  • By what they smell with their nose

  • By what they taste with their tongue

These 5 sense organs enable man to live in this physical world today.

But since faith deals with the invisible realm the above 5 sense organs do not have any role as they are not the proper instruments through which you can know about the spiritual realm or unseen realm. Just like how the 5 sense organs give a knowledge about the physical realm so also there is a part of man which God has created which alone has the ability to have knowledge of the invisible realm.

This part of man is "Man’s spirit". It alone has the ability to know the invisible or spiritual realm. Today failure on the part of believers in developing their spirit has resulted in the natural mind being stronger than the spirit and a struggle arises when they are told to believe something that they cannot understand with their senses.

Faith is a certainty in the spirit of something which you do not see, hear, smell, touch or feel
