Divine Healing
How did sickness enter this earth?
The Bible says in Isaiah 60:2
"For behold darkness shall cover the
earth and gross darkness the people"
We are now living in an age when this
prophecy can be deemed to be fulfilled.
Wherever we go we find that people are
afflicted by one problem or another.
Problems generally found are sickness,
living in debt, martial problem (problem
between husband and wife), office
problems, personal problems like
frequent bouts of depression, confused
mind etc., A great number of people
living in earth are affected by either
one or more of the above problems. Of
the above the most common and the one by
which many human beings are affected is
sickness and disease.
In order to understand Gods will
relating to healing, we have to go back
to the creation of man. The Bible says
that God created the earth and also
created Adam and Eve the first human
beings and placed them in the garden of
Eden which was a place of abundance,
health, tranquility and all kinds of
good things. Man lived in fellowship
with his creator. Genesis 3:8 reveals
that Lord God used to visit the garden
of Eden to have fellowship with the
humans he had created. The Bible also
reveals that God found that everything
he had made was very good. Man was
without sin and therefore he also was
very good in the sight of God and he
could have direct fellowship with his
Creator.
This relationship which man had with his
Creator was disliked by the enemy of
God, satan and he knew the only way to
spoil this fellowship was by making man
to sin through disobedience to Gods
word. Therefore, he devised a strategy
whereby he could make man disobey God
and commit sin. Adam and Eve fell prey
to the strategy of satan. Man disobeyed
word of God and sin entered this world
through disobedience of man. When sin
entered, satan gained authority over
earth and also over man.
As a result of sin sickness entered the
world and started afflicting man. Man
became helpless and started succumbing
to it. As sin increased wickedness
increased and new type of sickness
entered the earthly scenario. Though man
started discovering medicines which
could remove sickness to some extent,
its effect was very much limited in
scope due to the entry of new diseases.
Sin is the origin of Sickness and
Death
Thus we can clearly come to the
conclusion that sickness is a work of
satan and is a result of sin. satan was
the origin of sin and Satan is the
origin of sickness.
I John 3:8 very clearly reveals
" For this purpose the Son of God was
manifested that he might destroy the
works of the Devil "
Since God loved the world he could not
bear to see man living in sin and
sickness without fellowship with his
Creator. He therefore sent his only
begotten son Jesus Christ who was born
in this world as a man and was crucified
on the cross as per Gods plan so that
the works of Satan may be destroyed.
Colossians 2:15 reveals that
Jesus spoiled principalities and powers
(Satan and his forces) and he triumphed
over them in the cross. The cross
therefore reveals not only Triumph over
Satan but also over his works namely sin
and sickness.
As sickness is very clearly a work of
Satan like sin is, and sine I John 3:8
reveals that Jesus came into this world
to destroy the works of the devil we can
very clearly come to the conclusion that
being sick is certainly not Gods will.
Can being in sin be Gods will? It cannot
be, as sin is a work of Satan. If so can
being in sickness be Gods will? No, it
cannot be as sickness also like sin is a
work of Satan and Jesus Christ came into
this world to destroy the works of
Satan.
Being is Sickness is not God's will
just as being in sin is
If sickness is not Gods will then anyone
can be healed and be well for when a
person is healed the work of satan is
destroyed and Gods will is implemented
in this earth.
What does God's word say about sickness?
God has also revealed his will
concerning healing through many promises
in the word
Exodus 15:26 reveals Gods will
concerning sickness
"If thou will diligently hearken to the
voice of the Lord thy God and will do
that which is right in his sight and
will give ear to his commandments and
keep all his statutes, I will put none
of these diseases upon thee, for I am
the Lord that healeth thee"
From this verse we can clearly
understand Gods will when we obey his
commandments and keep his statutes then
God tells us that he is not the one who
puts diseases upon his obedient
children. Therefore, if a sickness or
disease comes on Gods obedient child
then we can clearly understand that God
is not the one who allowed it but it is
brought about by someone other than God
or it could have originated due to other
reasons. God clearly explains that He is
the Lord who heals his children. His
name is Jehovah Ropeh.
God wants you well and therefore he will
heal you
In Exodus 23:25 God says
"And he shall serve the Lord your God
and I will take sickness away from the
midst of thee"
Here God is revealing himself as the one
who takes away sicknesses from the midst
of his loved ones. This verse very
clearly shows God as the remover of all
sicknesses. Why does God remove
sickness? Why does he call himself as I
am the Lord that healeth thee? Because
God wants you well. In Deuteronomy 6:3
he indicates his will for his children.
He says it should be well with thee.
Therefore, if Gods will is healing,
there is no doubt that God will heal you
of whatever sickness or disease you may
be suffering from. Dearly beloved,
understand this truth. Let it sink deep
into your spirit. "God wants you well
and therefore he will heal you".
God's will concerning healing and the
ministry of Jesus
This fact that God is a healing God and
he wants all to be well was clearly
demonstrated by our Lord which is
evident from his earthly ministry.
Mathew 9:35 tells us about the ministry
of Jesus.
"And Jesus went about all the cities and
villages, teaching in their synagogues,
and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom
and healing every sickness and every
disease among the people."
Mathew 4:24
And his fame went throughout all Syria
and they brought unto him all sick
people that were taken with divers
diseases and torments and those which
were possessed with devils and he healed
them"
From the above verse we can divide the
Ministry of Jesus into four parts. Jesus
went about all the cities and villages.
How did he go about? He did not go about
simply but he went about doing certain
things. They were:-
1. Teaching
2. Preaching
3. Healing every Sickness and every
Disease
4. Driving out Demons
Just like teaching and preaching is Gods
will so also healing and driving out
demons is Gods will. That is why he
called his twelve disciples and gave
them power against unclean spirits to
cast them out and to heal all manner of
sickness and all manner of diseases
(Mathew 10:1)
Just like teaching and preaching is Gods
will so also healing and driving our
demons is Gods will. After giving them
power he revealed Gods will for the
people by commanding his disciples to
not only preach but do Gods will by
healing the sick, cleansing the lepers,
casting out devils (Mathew 10: 7,8)
In Mark 16:18 he has given the job of
laying hands on the sick to the believer
with a promise that when believers do so
the sick will recover. Thus the earthly
ministry of Jesus and his disciples
clearly reveal the will of God
concerning his children as well as for
all mankind. God wants all mankind to be
well.
In Mark 16:18 the word says
They shall lay hands on the sick and the
sick shall recover"
It does not say they shall lay hands on
the sick believers only and the sick
believer alone will recover. The word
says they shall lay hands on the sick
and the sick shall recover. So if well
being of the unbeliever is Gods will,
how much more will be the will of God
concerning the well being of his
children. If only all believers can
understand this will and desire of God,
their life will be different. Numbers
24:1 reveals that God is pleased to
bless Israel. The Israel of today are
the believers.
If well being of the unbeleivers is Gods
will how much more will be will of God
concerning his Children
Galatians 3:29 reveals
"They that are Christs are Abrahams
seed"
Israel means Abrahams seed. So if we are
Christs then we are Abrahams seed or
Israel and God is pleased to bless us.
As healing is a blessing we can boldly
state that God is pleased to heal his
children. He desires the well being of
his loved ones. God doesn’t want his
children sick. So it is certain and
definite that God will heal you as he is
pleased to heal you. Nothing pleases him
more than the well being of your spirit
and body.
Why
Sickness comes?
The question "Why sickness comes?" is
one which even doctors find difficult to
answer. Though medical research has made
much advancement the medical fraternity
are still not very clear as to the exact
cause of sickness afflicting humans.
Though man based on natural wisdom has
tried to justify the reasons as to why
sickness attacks humans the answers
provided are not fully satisfactory.
The Bible provides vital clues as to the
cause of sickness. A detailed analysis
of the Word of God reveals to us the
reasons for sickness to attack humans,
and we can safely say the cause of
sickness based on an analysis of the
Word is correct. This is because once
the cause is analysed based on the Word
and remedy applied as per scripture the
sickness is found to leave the
individual. The healings based on the
Word are still perplexing and confusing
to many but cannot be denied as medical
tests confirm the healing. There are
many reasons for sickness to come. In
this chapter we will analyse the causes.
Sickness or disease may be due to anyone
of these causes or a combination of
them.
The first and
foremost cause of sickness and disease
We have already discussed in Chapter I
that when God created this earth he
found that all of his creation was very
good and there was no sickness in this
earth. Sickness came as a result of
disobedience and fall of man. It entered
because of sin and hence the main reason
of sickness in this world is sin.
Hebrews 12:1 says that sin is near us
waiting to cling to us. Unless it is
near, it cannot easily take hold of you.
The verse says it easily besets you and
where sin is, sickness is I John 5:19
reveals that the whole world lieth in
wickedness and wickedness is sin. So
sickness like sin is very close to you
waiting to catch hold of you if you
allow. As long as you live in this world
we are prone to attacks by sickness and
unless we know and learn to resist there
is every chance that sickness may take
hold of you and dominate, though you may
be a believer and born of God.
Sickness came as a result of
Disobedience and fall of Man
John 8:34
"Whosoever committeth sin is a servant
of sin"
The Second reason
for sickness afflicting humans can be
family curse
Deuteronomy 28th chapter reveals this
very clearly to us. Verse 21, 22, 27, 28
and 35 reveals that pestilence,
consumption, ulcer, scurvy, skin
diseases, mental diseases, blindness,
incurable diseases etc are a result of
curse operating in a persons life.
Deuteronomy 28:59 also reveals the
effects of curses in the form of
sicknesses and diseases of long
duration. We can also understand from
Deuteronomy 28:59 that the curse
operating on our forefathers can come on
the children in the form of sickness and
diseases. This is very clearly explained
in Deuteronomy 28:18. The verse reveals
that the fruit of one’s body can suffer
from a curse. What is the fruit of one’s
body? It is our children. This curse can
operate even when the small child is in
the mothers womb resulting in the
children being born with physical
deformities. Many women suffer from
infirmities which can be of the
following forms. A tendency to miscarry,
irregular menstruation, cysts, tumours
or other growths affecting any of the
organs connected with the reproductive
process. These problems can be due to
curses and many females in a family may
be afflicted with such problems.
The curses operating on our forefathers
can come on their offspring
The third reason
why sickness afflicts humans is demons
This is very clearly described in the
Bible Luke 13: 10-13
"And he was teaching in one of the
synagogues on the sabbath and behold,
there was woman which had a spirit of
infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed
together and could in no wise lift up
herself"
And when Jesus saw her, he called her to
him and said unto the woman thou art
loosed from thine infirmity.
"And he laid his hands on her and
immediately she was made straight and
glorified God."
The passage reveals that this woman in
the synagogue was bowed down and unable
to lift herself up for 18 years though
she was a daughter of Abraham. Her life
was miserable.
What was the
Reason?
It was an evil spirit which had bound
her for 18 years. Evil spirits if
allowed can bind anyone and dominate
them making life miserable. She became
straight the moment Jesus drove out the
spirit.
Mathew 9:32, 33 also reveals that a dumb
man possessed with a devil was brought
to Jesus and when the devil was cast out
the dumb man spoke. Here it is very
evident that the reason for his dumb
condition was the Devil inside him.
In Mark 9:25 Jesus rebukes the foul
spirit in the boy as
"Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge
thee, come out of him and enter no more
into him and the spirit cried and rent
him sore and came out of him"
What would this spirit do if it enters
somebody? It will ensure that the person
is dumb and deaf.
Today demons are responsible for many
sicknesses and diseases. This is very
clearly demonstrated in the healing of
many sick people. When we command the
demons to come out in Jesus name we find
out that healings take place, pain
disappears, people unable to walk
properly run immediately sugar problems
(diabetes) and other sicknesses
disappear immediately.
The fourth reason
Why sickness afflicts Human is
The fourth reason why sickness comes is
found in 1 Corinthians 11:30
"For this cause many are weak and sick
among you"
The apostle Paul reveals that many
believers were weak and sick in a church
where all the gifts of the Holy Spirit
operated. What was the reason for many
to be weak and sick? The verse says many
were weak and sick, not some. Can it
also be the reason today for many
believers being sick in todays church?
What was the cause? Apostle Paul reveals
it in 1 Corinthians 11:29. "They did not
discern the Lords body". It means they
did not understand the importance of the
sufferings of Christ for their sake. 1
Corinthians 11:29 tells us very clearly
that to take part in the Lord’s table
one should be worthy.
The Lords Table is not to be taken very
casually. It is to be treated with
sanctity and reverence. Paul says before
taking part in the Lords table one
should examine himself to ensure that he
is worthy. Those who do not understand
the importance of the sufferings of
Christ, do not conduct their life or way
of living in a worthy manner and though
unworthy they take part in the Lords
table because they treat it in a casual
way.
Not discerning the Lord's body can
result in wakness and sickness and death
They have no reverence or sanctity
towards it. Paul says in 1 Corinthians
11:29 that they bring judgement upon
themselves which takes the form of
weakness or sickness. Every church
should teach its believers about the
importance of the Lords table and point
out that those living in sin,
unforgiveness, bondage to evil habits
etc., should first rectify themselves
before taking part in the Lords table.
The fifth reason
why sickness afflicts people is
violation of natural laws
As long as we live in this world we are
expected to respect the laws of health
and laws necessary for day to day
living. For example if one goes to a
contagious ward in a hospital and on
returning home does not take bath, he is
exposing himself to germ attack
resulting in sickness. If one eats too
much of chocolates and sweets he is
exposing himself to being afflicted by
sugar disease.
Eating frequently at regular intervals
especially food items with high fat
content is likely to result in
cholesterol level in the body increasing
and consequent illnesses, like heart
attack etc., Irregular eating habits are
also likely to result in various types
of sicknesses. Such neglect of natural
laws are not correct as it is an abuse
of our body which is the temple of the
living God.
As long as we live in this world we are
expected to respect the laws of health
and laws necessary for day to day
living.
The sixth reason
for sickness to afflict humans is lack
of understanding of Gods word
Isaiah 5:13 says
"My people have gone into captivity
because they have no knowledge"
No knowledge or lack of knowledge will
result in captivity Hosea 4:6
"My people are destroyed for lack of
knowledge"
It means improper understanding of God’s
word and it always results in captivity.
In Luke 13:16 sickness is called as
bondage and bondage is captivity. If you
do not understand Gods word, you will
never resist sickness when it is
manifested in your body.
Today there are some believers who
accept the theory that God wants them to
be sick and therefore this sickness has
come in their life.
They accept the sickness as sent by God
and also try to drive it away by
physical methods, like going to doctors
and taking medicines. What one should
know is "If God wants someone to be sick
or if the sickness is of God, it is
impossible to change Gods plan by going
to doctors". Such believers should know
that doctors medicines heal bodies
because God wants people well. If God
want them to bear sickness then how can
medicines change Gods will?
Believers should understand that
medicines heal because God wants people
well.
There are other type of believers who
due to lack of understanding Gods word
are unable to resist the sickness which
is manifested in their body using the
Word of God.
The word is very
clear
1 Peter 2:24 "By whose stripes ye were
healed"
Mathew 8:17 "Jesus himself bore our
sicknesses" which means we need not bear
it any more
3 John 2 "Beloved, I wish above all
things that thou mayest prosper and be
in health as thy soul prospereth"
Through such verses we can understand
Gods will for our bodies concerning
sickness and resist it
The seventh reason
why people are sick is because of worry
The most common weapon of Satan is
worry. Worry leads to tension and
tension to fear. It is like climbing
from one step to another. Recent medical
studies reveal that one of the reasons
for blockage in the valves of the heart
is tension. God has created the human
body in such a way that even a slight
disturbance in the mind will result in
the flow of blood becoming faster. This
results in disruption of normal body
functioning. Most of the diseases in
humans today are a result of worry,
tension and fear.
The most common weapon of Satan is worry
That’s why the Bible says in Philippians
4:6
"Don’t be worried about anything"
And Jesus in Mathew 6:27 asks "Which of
you by worrying can add one cubit to his
stature"
Worry Results in Sickness and Nothing
Else.
Other reason for sickness to attack
believers
Being out of Gods
Will
If one if out of God’s will especially
those in the Ministry the chances of
them being attacked by sickness is very
high. Gods will is like a protective
hedge which surrounds you. But if you go
out of God’s will or make additions to
Gods will you come out of the hedge
thereby exposing yourself to the attack
of the enemy.
Unforgiveness
The most Important cause of Sickness
especially among believers is Un
forgiveness
Unforgiveness creates a weak spot in
the spirit man of the believer which in
turn enables sickness to take over.
There have been many incidences where
sickness and diseases of believers were
healed immediately the moment they
forgave others against whom they had
resentment.
If you go out of Gods will or make
additions to Gods will you come out of
the Hedge thereby exposing yourself to
the attach of the enemy
