Things not mentioned as good in the
scripture
The bible is very clear about the things
which are good and the things which are
not good for men. As humans we are
expected to study the word to find out
the things which are not good in the
sight of God and rectify ourselves.
1. It is not Good
for Man to be alone.
Genesis 2:18
And the Lord God said, It is not good
that the man should be alone; I will
make him an help meet for him.
Why did God say that it was not good for
man to be alone ?
Observe God’s plan - Genesis 1:28
And God blessed them, and God said unto
them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the earth, How can man be
fruitful and multiply without a suitable
helper Secondly man without a suitable
helpmeet will be alone without a
companion Helpmeet means someone who
would be suitable intellectually,
morally, and physically—as himself.
Hence God created the institution of
marriage and said the following words
concerning marriage.
Matthew 19:4 And he answered and said
unto them, Have ye not read, that he
which made them at the beginning made
them male and female, Matthew 19:5 And
said, For this cause shall a man leave
father and mother, and shall cleave to
his wife: and they twain shall be one
flesh? Matthew 19:6 Wherefore they are
no more twain, but one flesh. What
therefore God hath joined together, let
not man put asunder.
Exodus 18:17
And Moses' father in law said unto him,
" The thing that thou doest is not good
".
2. It is not good
for man to overwork and take all
responsibility on himself thus wearing
himself away.
All of us know that in this world our
bodies which we have which enable us to
live are mortal. The body needs adequate
and proper food and rest . If we are not
aware of this and overwork giving the
body and mind no rest then we are
reducing the longevity of the body by
wearing it out beyond its performance
capacity .The Bible itself says in
Exodus 18:18 Thou wilt surely wear away
.Wearing out the body is not good as per
scripture.
This point is very clearly emphasized in
scripture from Exodus 18: 13 to 18
Moses father in law Jethro had come to
visit Moses. The next day Moses as usual
started his daily routine of Judging the
people from morning to evening. Jethro
who was observing all that happened asks
Moses - What is this thing that thou
doest to the people? why sittest thou
thyself alone, and all the people stand
by thee from morning unto even?
Immediately Moses replied that the
people came to enquire of God and he not
only judged them but he also made known
to them know the statutes of God, and
his laws. What a wonderful judge. Not
only judging the people righteously but
also making them known the statutes of
God and his laws. What a wonderful way
to judge.
But Moses was making a mistake which
Jethro pointed out. Jethro said Moses
"The thing that thou doest is not good".
If you continue to do so not only will
you wear away but you will also wear.
Exodus 18:18 Thou wilt surely wear away,
both thou, and this people that is with
thee: for this thing is too heavy for
thee; thou art not able to perform it
thyself alone.
Therefore it is essential that we don’t
wear ourselves out even if it be the
cause of doing God’s work.
3. Failing in
one’s responsibility is not good
1 Samuel 26:16
This thing is not good that thou hast
done. As the Lord liveth, ye are worthy
to die, because ye have not kept your
master, the Lord's anointed. And now see
where the king's spear is, and the cruse
of water that was at his bolster. Saul
had gone out in search of David along
with the chief general of his army Abner.
Though they searched they could not find
out David.
When David heard this during the night
he and Abishai went to the camp of Saul
to find that Saul lay sleeping within
the trench, and his spear stuck in the
ground at his bolster: and Abner and the
people lying round about him. When David
saw this he and abishai went inside
Sauls camp and took the spear and the
cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and
they gat them away, and no man saw it,
nor knew it, neither awaked: for they
were all asleep;
Then David went over to the other side,
and stood on the top of an hill afar
off; a great space being between them
and said these words Isaiah 26:16 This
thing is not good that thou hast done.
As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to
die, because ye have not kept your
master, the LORD's anointed.
Here the general of Sauls army had
failed in his responsibility. Remember
that failing in your responsibility
whatever it may be is not good according
to scripture and more so if it is
relating to God’s work. Consider the
verse Jeremiah 48:10 Cursed be he that
doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully.
4. It is not good
to walk without the fear of the Lord
Observe words of Nehemiah.
Nehemiah 5:9 Also I said, It is not good
that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the
fear of our God because of the reproach
of the heathen our enemies? When we walk
without the fear of the Lord we give an
opportunity for our enemies to reproach
us or put us to shame. As long as we are
in the fear of the Lord the protection
and support of the Lord is there. But
when we stop walking in the fear of the
Lord we cut ourselves of from the
invisible protection available for those
who fear him. Psalms 34:7 The angel of
the LORD encampeth round about them that
fear him, and delivereth them. If you
want to cut yourselves from this
supernatural protection then walk out of
the fear of the Lord but remember it is
not good for you according to the Bible.
5. Sometimes our
ways may not be good.
Psalm 36:4 declares
He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he
setteth himself in a way that is not
good; he abhorreth not evil. The Bible
very clearly reveals to us ways which
are not good in the sight of God
Psalm 1:1 The way of sinners
Psalm 1:6 The way of the ungodly
Psalm119:29 The way of lying.
Psalm119:101 The evil way
Psalm119:104 The false way.
Psalm139:24 The wicked way.
Proverb 30:20 The way of the adulterous
woman.
Proverb 15:19 The way of the slothful
man
It is very essential that one
understands the dangers of walking in
the ways which are not good and rectify
himself and turn to the right way. God
very clearly reveals in Isaiah 30:21 And
thine ears shall hear a word behind
thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye
in it, when ye turn to the right hand,
and when ye turn to the left.
Remember it pays to find out the way of
the Lord and walk in it.
Proverbs 17:26
Also to punish the just is not good.
God declares that punishing the just is
not good. One should understand that God
is concerned about the just and any harm
which the unjust may try to inflict on
the just using their physical strength
and resources will only backfire on
them. The just should rest relaxed on
the promises of God who is the avenger
of all those who try to hurt the just.
Proverbs 19:2
Also, that the soul be without
knowledge, it is not good; and he that
hasteth with his feet sinneth.
